How to find Diamonds in Minecraft 1.19

To find Diamonds in Minecraft 1.19 You must go below the Y=15 mark. This is at which you can increase the chances of finding Diamonds.

Minecraft 1.18 made several very important changes to Minecraft's world generation. If you're playing Minecraft 1.18 or later, you can go down below Y=0, and into negative figures. Below Y=0 you'll find all the usual ores including Diamonds embedded in Deepslate blocks instead of normal Stone blocks.

For more details on where you can find the most concentrations of Diamonds or other resources, see the graph below:

Diamond generates at Y=15 and increases in frequency as you move down. To see the current Y-Level click F3 and you'll be visible on the coordinates displayed. The current level of your lower half is indicated by the second number following "XYZ".

However it is true that if the Diamond is scheduled to be placed near an open air block during world generation, it has a chance of not producing. This makes it difficult to locate diamonds in caves, so you'll have to dig tunnels through the deepslate to increase your chances of finding diamonds.

Summary: To quickly find diamonds, dig as low as you can until you are at the bedrock. Then, start strip-mining!

How to locate Diamonds in Minecraft 1.17 and earlier versions

If you're playing Minecraft 1.17 or earlier, then you'll be able to find Diamond Ore in every Overworld biome from the Y-levels of 1-15. They are most commonly found between levels 5-12, so if you want to maximise your chances of finding Diamonds, stay between these two levels.

Whichever version of Minecraft you're playing on, Diamonds will spawn in tiny veins of up to 9 blocks at a time. However, very occasionally you'll find larger veins composed of multiple veins that are connected to each other. Diamonds are rare , even at the right levels.

Best method for mining Diamonds in Minecraft

Only an Iron Pickaxe is required to mine Diamond Ore. As of 1.18, Diamonds are far less common in open spaces such as caves, so to increase your chances of finding Diamonds in Minecraft you must strip-mine in straight lines across all directions.

The best way to mine Diamonds in Minecraft 1.19 is to dig to level 57 and create an extensive 2-block-tall tunnel in any direction. Next, start mining to either side in 2x1 tunnels. Each tunnel has a two-block gap.

When you're satisfied that you've stripped-mined all Diamonds at this level, repeat the whole process at level -53. If you mine this manner at both levels -57 and -53, then you'll be able to see all Diamonds that form between levels -58 and. This allows you to get the most amount of Diamonds, without running into blocks of Bedrock which could hinder your strip-mining progress.

If you're playing Minecraft 1.17 or earlier, you can follow the same method, but using levels 6 and 10.

While mining, it's a good idea to keep an Water Bucket on hand, since pockets of lava are fairly common at these levels. To prevent mobs spawning in your tunnels, bring plenty of torchlights to illuminate your path. You could also use Night Vision potions to lighten your path, however this will not prevent mobs spawning.
